Stones
Precious coral, importantly, is a different species than the coral we typically think about when coral is mentioned. That type of coral is reef coral - precious coral is harvested far below this shallow reef coral, about 50 meters below the surface. When harvested responsibly, coral is a sustainable material. Precious coral is one of the oldest materials, in fact, used in jewelry making. Because they are made of living organisms, precious coral rates only a 3 on the Mohs scale of hardness (1-10, and diamonds rate a 10).

Queen Conch Shell is special - it's made just like a pearl, but on the inside of a mollusk rather than an oyster! The finest specimens display a flame-like visual, formed from fibrous bands of calcium. Queen Conch Shell is extremely rare, as fisheries producing the material have largely collapsed and the industry is slowly responding with farm-grown Queen Conch-producing mollusks. These stones together are worn to celebrate the never-ending cycle of life.
